PSLE Tamil oral · Practice options · Checked 30 October 2026

PSLE Tamil oral practice: your options compared.

You can prepare a child for the Tamil oral for nothing, or for S$80 or more an hour. This page sets out what each kind of help actually gives, what it costs, and the one thing none of them does yet. Disclosure: PSLEPrep builds oral practice tools, and Tamil is not one of them yet.

Free

What can you get for free?

More than most parents expect: SEAB’s own e-Oral guide, your school’s practice materials and free videos and school resources. The limit is feedback: nobody tells you how the answer would score.

SEAB publishes a free e-Oral guide that previews the on-screen oral for Malay and Tamil, Standard and Foundation.

Tuition

What does tuition cost, and when is it worth it?

It is the only option that gives live, in-the-moment correction from a fluent speaker, and it is the most expensive. If you go that way, ask for oral practice specifically: not all Tamil tuition includes it, so check.

A tuition agency's published guide puts Tamil tuition at about S$25 to S$80 an hour, depending on the tutor.

The gap

What does none of them do yet?

Score your child’s spoken answer against what the oral rewards, every time they practise, at home. For Tamil, as of this page’s check date, we found no product that does. That is the gap PSLEPrep is considering filling.

A paid online Tamil oral course offers video clips, reading passages with audio models and model answers, and describes itself as unscored: nothing the child says is recorded or marked.

Choosing

How should we choose?

By your situation, not by price.

A simple rule · PSLEPrep’s advice

  1. Confident child, parent can help a little: free resources and a home routine are enough.
  2. Anxious child: more short practice, not longer sessions. A tutor helps if the child needs a human to talk to.
  3. Parent cannot help in Tamil: a tutor or course for the language, plus the English-only routine for the habits.
  4. Whatever you choose: record the child once a week and listen for length, reasons and pauses.

About this page

PSLEPrep is not affiliated with SEAB or MOE. Every exam fact on this page links to its source: SEAB's published syllabuses first, then MOE school documents and MOE-hosted teacher research, labelled by how strong the evidence is. Other figures come from SingStat and NIE. Where a source has not published something — the 2027 dates, the marking descriptors — we say so rather than guess.
